This time it was Alma Media’s turn to host an event on January 30th at our brand new Helsinki headquarters - “Alma House” - near Töölönlahti bay (to which we employees moved in during January 2013).
HelsinkiJS is actually the biggest monthly developer meetup in Finland. The January 2014 meetup was the biggest HelsinkiJS so far with around hundred people attending.
HelsinkiJS is actually the biggest monthly developer meetup in Finland. Our new office turned out to be well suited for the event as the January meetup was the biggest HelsinkiJS so far with around hundred people attending.
The meetup started with food, drinks and laid back conversations after which the presentations were held. The January meetup consisted of four presentations.
First up was Ari Palo, front-end developer from Alma Media, who talked about using NodeJS as a “server-side front-end”, a concept where the back-end’s business logic is encapsulated within an JSON REST API which the NodeJS “front-end application” uses. Evening’s second speaker was Niilo Ursin, technology lead from Kauppalehti.fi, who talked about the experiences on using AngularJS on various Kauppalehti projects.
Third presentation was from Mika Raento, co-founder brightside.io, about DOM & CSS performance on Mobile Safari. Brightside uses AngularJS combined with D3.js to build interactive data-heavy charts for tablets and smartphones. Mika has written a blog post about the subject as well. Last talk of the evening was by Vladimir Orekhov from Aalto Entrepreneurship Society talked about 9-day programming contest called ”CodeIT“.
To quote Borat, the event was a “GREAT SUCCESS” and a big thank you goes to the January 2014 meetup attendees, HelsinkiJS community and the main organizers behind the meetups: Oleg Podsechin and Timo Herttua. You can see more photos from the event at Alma Developers’ instagram account and on HelsinkiJS twitter account.
